Ramblings about health, dogs, and other randomness

Friday Favorites #3

This week was a different one—my mom was out of town for most of the week, the temperatures were below twenty for a majority of it, and I picked up Hope on Monday. So most of the week was spent getting the new pup acclimated, staying bundled up inside, and cooking yummy dinners for my dad and me.

I’ve always heard that dogs help you appreciate the little things in life, and the little Hopester has proven this to be true. She LOVES the snow and cold, which is quite opposite of her mama. And I’ve gotten to see some constellations and deer in the backyard which is pretty different from OKC life.

Brene Brown

I first hear of Brene Brown when I watched her Ted Talk on the “Power of Vulnerability“. I actually rewatched some of her video clips on YouTube a few weeks ago, and became interested in her books. A friend gave me Daring Greatly for my birthday, and I started reading it before bed the last couple of nights. I think it’s a good lesson for this season, and I’m looking forward to sharing and applying what I learn.

I previously thought I didn’t like salmon, but I made it for my dad and me for dinner this week and decided I was wrong. I kept it simple and baked it in a blend of olive oil, butter, and lemon juice, sprinkled with some spices at 400 for about 15 minutes. Served with baked potatoes and kale salad. So tasty!

Warmer Temps

Today we hit 48 and after single digit temps in the morning all week, it felt like I was back in Arizona! I thought Hope would be sad to see the snow melt, but she became more adventurous in the backyard and was doing laps in the side yard. It’s supposed to hit 60 tomorrow and I’m hoping to take her to a dog park.

Visits from Friends

One of my college roommates is coming to visit and meet Hope and have a sleepover this weekend and I can’t wait for some much needed girl time. Puppy play time, movies, girl talk, and yummy food will definitely be happening.

My golden doodle calendar

Yes, I am a crazy dog mama. And I’m convinced that 2018 is going to be a great year—complete with a 12 month golden doodle calendar. This month’s picture features two white doodles like my Hope. So fun!

What are you loving this week?
